About University of Louisiana at Monroe
Beginning as a junior college in 1931, the University of Louisiana at Monroe has grown into a comprehensive institute of higher learning offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. Originally, the school was known as Ouachita Parish Junior College and was part of a parish school system with classes held in Brown Hall. In 1934, it became the Northeast Center of Louisiana University only to undergo another name change in 1939 to the Northeast Junior College of Louisiana State University.
In 1950, the school expanded, adding academic degrees. This led to another name change to the Northeast Louisiana State College with control taken by the State Board of Education. It gained university status in 1970 and the name was changed to University of Louisiana Monroe in 1999.

University of Louisiana at Monroe Application Requirements
Undergraduate applicants with no college credit after high school graduation must have at least a 2.35 minimum GPA, an ACT score of 18 in English and 19 in math or an SAT minimum score of 450 in English and 460 in math in order to be accepted. They must submit an application and official high school transcripts to apply. Adult learners without college credits after graduation must also submit official high school transcripts.
Transfer students must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. They must be in good standing at the last college or university they attended as well.
Graduate students who wish to apply must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Official GRE or GMA results must be provided and only those with a converted GRE score of 750 or a GMA score of 450 or higher are able to apply.
University of Louisiana at Monroe Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate tuition for both residents and non-residents is $685.53 per credit hour. Graduate tuition is $802.76 for both residents and non-residents.
Financial aid is available based on both merit and need. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify. Students must also maintain a GPA of 3.0 and attend at least part-time. They must also complete at least 67 percent of all hours attempted to remain eligible.
Aid may be in the form of grants or scholarships which do not have to be repaid. Loans, which must be repaid, are also offered as part of many financial packets. Students attending on campus may be offered work-study which provides employment in exchange for reduced tuition.
