The undergraduate degrees are all offered both online and in the classroom.

Graduate students can pick from almost 20 different degrees and foci, which combine both master’s and doctoral studies. Such foci include Family Therapy and Counseling, Pastoral Counseling, and School Counseling. The graduate degrees are offered online, in the classroom, or as hybrid degrees. Some of the online courses have residency in a facility instead of classroom time.

Regent University requires the study of the Christian religion as part of its core curriculum. Undergraduate psychology majors take several courses in Christian belief and philosophies and compare them to secular philosophies. Students also study economics, western civilization, and world history as part of the core. They also take classes in several kinds of psychology.

Graduate study at Regent University is equally demanding. Students must complete a thesis at the master’s level and a dissertation at the doctoral level. These courses are pass/no pass. Students may select research or clinical tracks or focus on both equally, depending on what they decide with their respective advisers.

About Regent University

In a world of “hallowed halls” and universities that are more than 400 years old, Regent University is a newcomer. It’s only been around for 41 years, but it has risen to national prominence. U.S. News and World Report ranks Regent University No. 201 among all such institutions in the country. The university ranks in the top 50 for both “Best Colleges for Veterans” and “Best Online Bachelor Programs.” When it comes to online graduate programs, Regent University is No. 61.

Almost two-thirds of classes at Regent University have fewer than 20 students, which means that each student receives a lot of individual attention. The campus is small without being minuscule, so the atmosphere between students and teachers is snug and communal. Regent University Application Requirements

First-time freshmen must submit their official high-school transcripts and take the SAT or ACT. The school or testing company must submit the results or transcripts on behalf of the student. No self-sent materials will be accepted. Students who have been out of school for five or more years do not need to take the SAT or the ACT. Students must also submit a two-paragraph statement that outlines their faith or personal relationship with Jesus Christ. All freshmen must submit a copy of their government-issued identification.

Master’s candidates must hold a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree from a regionally accredited university or college and have earned at least a 2.75 GPA in their undergraduate studies. A 3.00 GPA is preferred. Graduate students must also complete an academic background questionnaire on Regent University’s website, submit a resume, and have their undergraduate schools send copies of their official transcripts.

Students pursuing a doctorate must have both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from a regionally accredited university. They must have earned at least a 3.00 GPA in their undergraduate study and a 3.50 GPA in their graduate study. A resume and letters of recommendation are required. Students may, however, submit unofficial transcripts for consideration and then provide the official copies later. Students entering the psychology field at the doctoral level must also take the Graduate Record Examinations, minus the Psychology Subject Test. Students who score high enough may test out of the university’s writing course.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate, full-time tuition comes to $8,610 per semester. Assorted fees come to roughly $1,500, and certain courses have additional fees associated with them. Students should check the website to find out more. Online undergraduate students pay $395 per credit hour. Master’s candidates pay $500 or more per credit hour, depending on the type of degree sought. The same holds true for doctoral candidates.

The financial aid process is based on need, and students begin that process by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. This form outlines their income, assets, and such, and the college and the government use it to determine if a student is eligible for financial aid and, if so, what types. There are three forms of aid: grants, scholarships, and loans.

Students may decide for themselves if they want to apply for merit-based aid, too, but they must bear in mind that any private, merit-based aid they receive will affect their need-based aid through the FAFSA. Grants and scholarships do not need to be repaid, by and large, whereas loans do. Some grants and scholarships have academic requirements to keep them. Students who do not maintain such standards might have their award revoked. In some cases, the students might have to repay any money already dispersed.

International students who wish to participate in work-study programs, which are classified as grants, should remember to file all applicable paperwork with United States immigration authorities prior to applying so that they don’t wind up not being able to work.

Regent University strives to be at the forefront of all Christian universities in the United States, and their rankings show that they have succeeded.
