About Fielding Graduate University

Fielding Graduate University is a graduate university that offers programs for students at the post-bachelor and higher levels. Established in 1974 as the Fielding Graduate Institute, it opened in Santa Barbara, California after a group of professionals decided to open a school that offered psychology training for graduate students and others. It would later become The Fielding Institute before adopting the Fielding Graduate University name. The university now uses a slogan that tells students the changes they want to see in the world will start with they change themselves.

Fielding Graduate University made history when it developed a media psychology program. That program inspired other colleges to create similar programs that study the connection between the media and their audiences. Fielding created the nation’s first graduate and doctoral programs in media psychology. Students attending the university agree to take online classes and attend sessions on the Fielding Graduate University campus and locations across the country each year. All students do research projects and other work that they present to others for feedback. The feedback they get from their peers and professors help them improve that work. Fielding Graduate University now offers two doctoral programs that students can finish in three to six years, which is less than it takes at other colleges. Higher Education Magazine ranks the university as one of the best for minority students.
