Students at Cornell University can study psychology at both the undergraduate or graduate levels. There is, however, no master’s program in psychology or its associated fields at Cornell University. The graduate school only accepts Ph.D. candidates. Graduate students are encouraged to become researchers, teachers, or scholars.
Students at the undergraduate level can either major or minor in psychology. The minor involves 18 psychology credits in addition to the core credits of a standard degree. Additionally, prior to admittance to the minor, students must pass three psychology classes with a grade of C+ or better. Additionally, there is a minor available in Computing in the Arts With an Emphasis on Psychology. This minor is available to all students.
The psychology major comprises 40 psychology credits in addition to the core requirements. Students must earn at least a C- in any psychology class to graduate. Students are encouraged to perform research as part of their degrees, and if those students’ grades are up-to-snuff, then the university will assign an advisor for such research. Psychology majors must prove themselves proficient in probability and statistics before their senior year.
The Ph.D. in psychology requires students to pass the general Graduate Record Examinations. The psychology GRE is not required, and students, although a previous bachelor’s and master’s degree are required, are not required to have either of these degrees in the field of psychology. Graduate study at Cornell University is structured into fields. These fields are made up of interdisciplinary committees that comprise faculty members who share common interests, and these committees oversee the graduate student’s education. For example, a female student who is going to earn a Ph.D. in psychology could have faculty members from the sociology, engineering, music, and art departments on her committee in addition to the psychology professor.
When it comes to online learning, students may earn certificates as part of their professional development, but there are no full online degrees in the field of psychology. Students may, however, take certain classes online.

Cornell University Application Requirements
Each program at Cornell University, both undergraduate and graduate, has different requirements. Generally, incoming freshmen have to take either the SAT or ACT. The writing portion of these tests is not required, and for many subject areas, neither are the subject-specific SATs. For the arts and sciences, however, prospective students must take two subject area SATs of their choice.
Undergraduates must also have their high schools submit official transcripts. They must also submit a counselor recommendation and two additional letters of recommendation from two separate teachers. Cornell University also requires mid-year grades.
Graduate students must pass one of the usual tests for admission, including the Graduate Management Admission Test, the Graduate Record Examinations, or the Miller Analogies Test. Students should check the website for further details.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Cornell University tuition depends on several factors. Residency, program, type of study, and other things all contribute to the different levels. The base tuition for most students if $54,584 annually. Certain graduate students will pay as much as $100,000 per year. Others might pay as little as $28,000. Students should contact the Office of the Bursar for more information. Cornell University offers an insurance plan for the refund of most tuition costs in cases where the student has to withdraw from school for a variety of reasons. The plan is only $168 per semester, so it should give most students great peace of mind.
Financial aid at Cornell University works much the same as at other universities. Students begin with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, which the school and the government will use to determine the amount of need-based aid the student is entitled to receive. Such aid will be either grants, scholarships, or loans. Students may also elect to apply for private aid from other entities, such as local banks, credit unions, charitable foundations, and the like. Students should remember, however, that any private aid will correspondingly reduce the amount of need-based aid received.
