Capella University offers a variety of programs in counseling and psychology at all degree levels. The programs are offered both in-person and online. The master’s degrees require internship and practicum hours. The doctoral programs require a dissertation and comprehensive examination.

The Master of Science in Addiction Studies requires a total of 48 quarter credits. The core courses include Assessment of Addiction, Ethical and Legal Issues in Addiction Treatment, Group Therapy in Addiction Treatment, Theories and Models of Addiction Treatment, and Supervision and Program Management in Addiction Treatment.

The Master of Science in School Counseling requires 72 quarter credits, and the core courses include Introduction to School Counseling, Counseling and Advocacy with Diverse Populations, School Counseling Program Development and Evaluation, Counseling for College and Career Readiness, and Child and Adolescent Psychopathology.

Federal Work Study

The Federal Work-Study, FWS, is a program funded by the federal government to assist students in paying for their higher education. Eligible students have the ability to pursue part-time employment and the pay is allocated from funding sources within the federal government. Students are able to work up to 20 hours a week while enrolled in classes. The pay is at least the current federal minimum wage, but actual earnings depend on the employer, position, and qualifications of the student. Students are typically paid every other week.
